SMART Board
I am fortunate enough to have a SMART board in my music room...I can't imagine having to teach without it!
I am including sample files on this page. Keep checking back for more files!
Pease Porridge Hot Form
Use this to label the form for "Pease Porridge Hot" with apples (A), bananas (B), and cherries (C), To use this, you need to have the Music Ed font installed on your computer. To purchase this font, go to http://www.musicteachertools.com/musiced. Totally worth the $25...I use the font all the time!

Sentence Arranger
Use this type of flash file to teach a new song. This is a great way to integrate literacy! I'm including a file for the song "If you dance," but you can change the lyrics to any song you want by clicking on "edit." You can also create a file by scratch by searching for "sentence arranger" in the gallery.

Do you hear what I hear?
Use these files when practicing a specific solfa/ melodic concept. I created these to aurally and visually assess students; the first file is to practice "do," and the second file is to practice "re". I have also posted these to the SMART Exchange web site.

Could it be smsm?
Use this file after presenting sol and mi, to assess whether students can identify patterns on the staff. For each one, they vote whether the pattern could be "smsm," or if it is not "smsm." Using a rule like "if sol is on a space, mi is on the space below" and "if sol is on a line, mi is on a line below" is very helpful for this!

Music terminology "Hot Spots" file
This is a new kind of file I just learned about. After my students learn the names "ta," "ti-ti," etc. for rhythms, I begin teaching them the actual terminology, like "quarter note" and "eighth notes." In this file, students practice naming musical rhythms and symbols. Press "start," then students look at the term and tap which symbol/rhythm matches. To create a file like this, search for "hot spots" in my gallery. A world map template will come up. If you bring that onto a page and click on "edit," then under "world map," bring up "custom." Then you can create it with whatever rhythms or symbols you want!

Instrument Family Sort
This is another new kind of file called "checker tool." You can find it by searching for "checker tool." This allows you to drag a word into the box, and the tool will recognize whether the word is correct or not. This file has students choose the correct instrument family for each description.

"Dinah" Pull Tab
After singing the song and clapping the rhythm, students can fill in the missing rhythms with a SMART board pen. Then, you can have them check their answers by pulling the arrow (pull tab) over.
To use this, you need to have the Music Ed font installed on your computer.

"Ghost Melodies"
Have students draw their own melody for the ghost, and then explore their voices by singing that melody.
